Lennon Praises Celtic’s Mentality Ahead of Derby

Neil Lennon has heaped praise on the mentality of his players ahead of tomorrow’s Glasgow Derby match at Celtic Park versus Rangers. The Scottish Champions go into the match 5 points clear, albeit Steven Gerrard’s men have one game in hand.

Celtic have won 7 out of 7 on the domestic front and just one game remains before the Winter break allows a period of rest and recovery for the Bhoys. The one remaining game happens to be against the second placed Rangers in what promises to be a festive cracker.

Speaking to Celtic’s Official website, the manager was full of praise for the mentality that the players had shown by continuing to work and continuing to win.

“It was important to win against St Mirren in midweek, we won well and we won comfortably.

“St Mirren Park is not an easy venue to go to, and that just breeds extra confidence. The run we’re on is fantastic and the consistency levels, quality of play and will to win is very strong at the minute.

“The players are a brilliant bunch and I’ve learned so much from them myself as well. I enjoy working with them, watching them train and watching them play. Their professionalism, and the quality of their play since August has been absolutely magnificent in all competitions.

“They keep going, they’ve no signs of letting up. They’ve got one big game to go before they get their well-earned break.”

The wins in December have ensured Celtic head into the clash with the Ibrox side 5 points ahead and win the first piece of silverware available for the season after the League Cup win at Hampden.

“I’m delighted with the run of wins. No matter where we’ve been, who we’ve played, no matter what the context has been, the conditions, it’s been brilliant.

“It’s been a heavy month, they’ve played brilliantly and with a bit of a swagger at times. They’re under the spotlight all the time, but they always find ways to win games. In the main, they’ve won those games really well. That’s a big plus for the players.”

Celtic will be rewarded with a fortnight break after the game tomorrow lunchtime, which will include a warm weather training camp in Dubai.
