Lennon’s No Holds Barred Team Meeting – “They are clear now on what is required. I sensed I’ll get the response I’m looking for”

Neil Lennon has given us an insight into how he has been going about picking up the pieces behind the scenes after the disgraceful performance on Thursday night against Sparta Prague. It was a performance that is entirely unacceptable to the Celtic support and those involved have certainly damaged their own copy books in the eye of the support. Jobs and reputations are on the line now. Another performance like that and anything other than three points today will probably signal the end of the managerial role for Lennon, John Kennedy and Gavin Strachan.

The man who will do any firing is Dermot Desmond, or at least he will instruct his CEO Peter Lawwell to do the needful. For now though all eyes are on Motherwell’s Fir Park. The Celtic manager confirmed that he’s had a conversation with the Irish Billionaire who is Celtic’s largest shareholder.

“I’ve spoken to Dermot since Thursday but it was a private conversation,” Lennon confirmed, as reported by Daily Record. “I speak to him twice a week so it was no different to any other week.”

Neil Lennon also revealed details of the player meeting that happened yesterday as the manager made them watch back the full Sparta Prague game. That must have been uncomfortable for most folk in the room.

“We had a meeting on Saturday and went through the game again, which is something I haven’t done for a long long time,” Lennon said. “I wanted them to see it. We got a few points across that we wanted to make.

“We have to show a much better attitude and apply ourselves a lot better in games.

“Because the level of performance on Thursday was unacceptable. We went through the game and then at the end the players had their say too.

“They are clear now on what is required. I sensed I’ll get the response I’m looking for. I know what I’ve got in there.

“We’ve got to stay on point. We had a great season last year – and we have plateaued a bit. But there is more to come from this team and hopefully that will start on Sunday.”
