On This Day in 2007, Celtic Football Club’s long awaited state-of-the-art training facility was opened for the very first time. The club had been playing at the outdated Barrowfield training ground for some time pre-2007, and needed to upgrade their infrastructure to move with the constantly evolving modern world.
Plans would be set in motion from 2005 onwards, as the club reached a conditional agreement with NHS Scotland for the purchase of the 46 acres at the foot of the Campsie hills. Brian Quinn, our former Chairman, initiated the the construction process in May of 2006 – digging the first piece of soil in a ceremonial act to signify the begining of a new era in Celtic FC’s glorious history.

Construction was totally finished around December of 2007, after an awesome effort by sub-contractors Campbell Construction. The new facility was equipped with a grass pitch with under soil heating and a brand new artificial surface pitch at full size, amongst other new features. This new complex would home all of Celtic’s footballing teams, and become the focal point of the football environment.
A new share issue was implemented then enacted, as Celtic looked to raise the capital for this particular project. The final mark up came within the region of £8 million, and would prove to be money well-spent. Our collective endeavours would ensure Celtic Football Club was ahead of the pack when it came to first class training facilities in Scotland. A key component to our success over the years since its introduction.

Several Celtic managers have had the fortune to be equipped with Lennoxtown as their respective footballing heartbeat through the years. Now, with Ange Postecoglou a tailor-made training ground coach, Lennoxtown will play a vital part in ensuring Celtic remain successful under the nose of our newest managerial incumbent.
