Like father, like son – Jordan Larsson shows why Celtic missed a trick in 2019

Jordan Larsson has scored twice in Spartak Moscow’s win over Ural today. The son of Henrik scored two goals his dad would have been proud of and proved that the Parkhead side missed a trick by not signing him in the summer of 2019. Just £4m was needed to prise the Swedish International to Russia, a move that has proved fruitful with twelve goals and five assists in 23 games.

Larsson was linked with a sensational move (mostly by Celtic fans) shortly before he decided to swap Sweden for Russia but no move ever transpired. However, Larsson admitted in December to Russia Today that Celtic had a special place in his heart and that he would love to play for the club if an opportunity ever presented itself.

“For me Celtic will always have a special place in my heart.

“Not that I’ve played there in that sense, but it was the first place where I saw football as a young kid going with my mother to see games when my father was playing.

“That’s where I have the biggest memories in my head.

“‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’ you have all the scarves before the games and everything so of course it will always have a special place in my heart.

“But at the same time since my father is who he is at the club I think for me personally if I would ever have the chance to play there then I would like to establish myself even more, make my own name before I would play there if that chance would ever come up but of course it’s tempting.

“Not that they are interested in that sense but If I think about it to be able to play there would be a dream in that sense.

“For me my whole life has been about proving I’m a good player, that I’m my own person you know.”

If Jordan was to join Celtic, he would have to work very hard to even be mentioned in the same breath as his father, who is one of the greatest players to ever play for Celtic.

£650k was the fee that Wim Jansen paid Feyenoord in 1997 and it is fair to say that this represents one of the best pieces of transfer business in modern times. If you have 15 minutes and would like to remise over the King of Kings’ time in Paradise, all 242 goals feature in the brilliant video below.

As one of the greatest players to grace the turf at Celtic Park, Larsson is fondly remembered and hopefully Celtic can entice the 23-year-old to follow in his father’s footsteps.
