Liverpool legend confirms he will go back to supporting Celtic once Steven Gerrard leaves

For some reason it’s always strange to think of footballers preferring or even supporting certain teams, but surely most of them do.

There’s always a tendency down south for the conversation to turn to which one of the Glasgow teams they support, while the links between Celtic and Liverpool are obvious.

You also expect that players will always want an old teammate to do well, but a report from HITC does suggest that Steven Gerrard might not have the full backing of Jamie Carragher on derby day.

Carragher talked about his preference of Celtic and although he says the right things about wanting the Rangers manager to do well, it’s clear that he’s not a fan of the Ibrox club.

He confirmed in a Q and A session that he would root for Rangers as long as Gerrard was in charge, but he will revert back across once he leaves.

Obviously the ability to simply switch between fully demonstrates that he’s not an actual Celtic fan and probably doesn’t understand what it’s all about either.

It’s also worth pointing out that despite their best efforts to rewrite history (not for the first time) this season, it’s painfully obvious that Steven Gerrard has been a failure so far and can’t have that long left.

We often see players like Carragher linked with a move up north once they reach the end of their careers, so it’s probably a blessing that Celtic never had to endure a season of him with no pace left.
