‘Long May It Continue’, Griffiths Fires Message to Celtic’s Rivals

Celtic’s defence of the Scottish Cup continues as Neil Lennon’s side travel to Broadwood stadium, home of Clyde for the Fifth Round tie on Sunday. Griffiths has fired a message to Celtic’s opponents in current weeks that he is hungry to continue his impressive form with Odsonne Edouard and blow teams away, like they did last night in Motherwell.

Celtic have impressed since swapping to a 3-5-2, winning all of their games since returning from their winter break in Dubai. Despite looking shaky in the first half versus Motherwell, the Scottish Champions put on a show and ran out 4-0 winners and they’ll be hoping to continue that on Sunday.

“We’ve played a few games so far this year, and we’ve won every one of them. We need to keep that going on Sunday.”

A big factor to Celtic’s success since the turn of the year has been the partnership between Edouard and Griffiths,

“Odsonne and I feed off each other. He likes to go short, and I like to play on the shoulder of the last defender. Our partnership has been working really well. Long may that continue for both of us.”

One of the most infamous days in Celtic’s modern history came at the Cumbernauld ground in 2006 and Leigh Griffiths has warned his teammates against becoming a famous giant killing in the Cup.

Whilst Lennon alluded to the fact he might ring the changes ahead of the match versus the League 1 side, Griffiths says that anyone that comes in will be desperate to get Celtic into the next round.

“The manager might make a few changes on Sunday, but we’ll go in full of confidence. We need to bring our A-game, because Clyde will be looking to cause a shock. As players, we don’t want to be on the receiving end of a cup shock.”
