Looks like Hyeon-Gyu Oh has silenced the doubters

Since Hyeon-Gyu Oh joined Celtic in January, the 22-year-old has averaged a goal every 80 minutes. To put that in perspective, Celtic and SPFL top goal scorer Kyogo Furuhashi has averaged a goal every 84 minutes.

For a player that has been criticised by some of the Celtic support in recent weeks in the wake of a run of poor results and performances, his recent double at the weekend seems the perfect way to finish his first season in Glasgow.

Much of the Celtic fanbase were concerned with the departure of cult-hero Giorgos Giakoumakis during the winter transfer window, but these concerns have surely been eradicated now.

Replacing the Greek international with a player in Oh who is far more technically gifted and agile, while still garnering that mean streak is one of Ange’s most underrated pieces of business.

The South Koreans movement and composure in the box is another quality he shares with Giakoumakis, which can be seen in his recent goals against Hibernian and Aberdeen.

His development in a Celtic shirt has gone unnoticed among many Celtic fans, with Kyogo Furuhashi deservedly receiving the plaudits up top with his terrific form this season.

Oh’s first taste of European football will come next season and you just feel he will take to it like a duck to water. His physicality and ever improving hold up play will give Ange a different dynamic to Kyogo if needed.

With the small matter of Champions League group stage football next season, he will likely receive more game time with rotation necessary in those first five months of the season.

And Oh Hyeon Gyu with a pre-season under his belt seems an exciting prospect. Those who longed for Giorgos Giakoumakis to return seem to have a new cult hero on their hands.

I don’t know who is criticising him, but he is a 21yr old from a totally different culture and is only in the country four and a half months…. no time for naysayers and begrudgers ! Similarly, although longer in the country, Bernabei and Kobayashi. Furthermore, I would like to see their qualifications that gives them the right to question Ange’s abilities ??? Oh of course, everyone is entitled to an opinion, even if they use their arse to express it !
