Loovens in Celtic Recruitment Pledge

FORMER Celtic defender Glenn Loovens has admitted that he is hoping to help his former side by identifying new potential signings. Since hanging up his boots, Loovens has decided to enter the talent scout market and hopes this can help Celtic.

The Dutch defender, who spent four years at Celtic, decided to retire last summer following one year with Jack Ross at Sunderland. However, having decided coaching isn’t for him, Loovens will take up a role as a scout across Europe – as reported by the Glasgow Times.

“I tried a bit of coaching last year and the year before. I have done a few of my badges. But it probably isn’t for me.

“I am planning on working in the scouting and recruitment side of the game. I have played professional football for 18 or 19 years so I have certainly got contacts.

“I am currently based in Belgium, where my wife is from, near Genk. I will be happy to let Celtic know about the availability of any good players I come across.”

Loovens won the league, the Scottish Cup and the League Cup in his time in Scotland and following his time with Celtic he had spells in Spain and England before deciding it was time to retire. He is best remembered for scoring a wonderful header versus Killie to win the league at Rugby Park in 2012.

It would be handy having Loovens to identify and report to Celtic those that he considers to be promising youngsters, especially as he confirmed that he would be based out of Belgium.
