The curious case of Luca Connell struck me with Celtic’s Dubai training footage. When he was signed, he arrived with a decent reputation having played well for Bolton in senior football. Connell was put straight into the first team for the pre-season matches in 2019 and spoke about his desire to break in as a regular. Since then, he has disappeared.
I can’t help but think that staying at the club is doing him no good. There is no reserve team football here and the Development league is a step down from playing professionally in the Championship, which Bolton were part of, in 2018/19. Instead, I would loan him out to another SPFL team to get some first team action and see what he’s made of.
Ordinarily, fans wouldn’t read too much into it. However, Soro would have been in a similar bracket a few weeks ago. Now he’s one of our best players, after being given a chance in a dead rubber against Lille. Turnbull was slightly different. We knew what he could do from his time at Motherwell, but again it took him until that Lille match to get a real opportunity.
Could Luca Connell be another gem not getting a chance? He has a good reputation, if given the opportunity he may well be another Soro. If not, give him a bit of first team action on loan. All being well, he will prove his talent and then we have another good young player, alongside Turnbull, Soro, Johnston and Frimpong to build a team for the future.
Neil Lennon has cost us the league by not giving Connell,
Soro, Turnbull, Harper a game at least 3 months ago, the only reason can be that he was scared to give them a chance. Now is the time to break up this so called squad
the way big Jock did in 1971, give the youngsters a chance,The manager must walk and give the new manager time to build something for next season. NL
