Daizen Maeda took his goal tally to 25 for the season last night, after scoring a brace against Aberdeen, prompting calls for him to be named Player of the Year right now…

The Japanese star has been in sensational form this season and has really flourished in the intervening weeks Kyogo Furuhashi left the club for Stade Rennais in France’s Ligue 1.
Maeda establishing himself at the Celtic talisman
It seems as if Maeda is relishing the prospect of bearing the responsibility to be the club’s man talisman, and has been going about his business in a wonderful fashion of late. For some supporters, Maeda has been a source of consternation, as his unshakable heart, work ethic and pressing ability were not appropriately assimilated with his final ball or finishing prowess.

That seems to be a thing of the past now, as his exploits this year for the club, on both the domestic and European scene, have been astonishing. So much so, Brendan Rodgers revealed that there will no doubt be interest in the dynamo’s services come the end of the season, when asked if he would be acquiring glances from potential suitors.

After the match, Sutton revealed that Maeda is possibly the fittest player in world football, with his constant attacking threat and pressing ability that we have come to know so well in full flow against the Dons once more.

Taking to Twitter (X) post-match, Chris Sutton said:
“A lot to admire about this Celtic team. Everyone saying the league is over yet the team have to go out and perform. Not at their best in the first half but ruthless finishing was the difference. Engels excellent and Maeda is the fittest player in the universe.”
