Manchester City set to listen to offers for ex-Celtic loan star Paddy Roberts

MANCHESTER CITY are set to listen to offers for former Celtic loan star Patrick Roberts. City, who shelled out an enormous fee for Roberts to Fulham in 2015 for £12m, were keen to see the value in Roberts in other markets. He was therefore sent to Girona, Norwich and Middlesbrough but injuries have curtailed his progress. Now, Celtic could potentially see value in going after their former loan star for a cut price deal.

Speaking to Teeside Live, Simon Bajkowski, the Man City reporter for the Manchester Evening News confirmed that Roberts was not close to Pep Guardiola’s first team and that they would listen to offers – whether that be loan or permanent – for the 23-year-old.

“There’s probably more chance of Lionel Messi playing for City than there is Patrick Roberts,” he said.

“He simply hasn’t forced himself in City’s plans for a long, long time. Players like Jack Harrison have gone on loan and caught the eye and, for whatever reason, Roberts hasn’t been able to do that.

“City tied him down until 2022 last year before he went to Norwich on loan.

“He’s not expected to be part of the first team squad next season so if another team comes in with a loan or permanent offer then they will be listened to.”

Roberts scored 18 goals in 79 appearances in Scotland and was very impressive under Brendan Rodgers in the Invincible season. He may be keen on a move to Celtic as it would give him the chance to settle, something he hasn’t had the opportunity to do since leaving Celtic.

With Celtic currently in the market for a right winger, Roberts could be the perfect fit and if a deal can be negotiated then it could be a happy return to the club for the Englishman.

It would not be a transfer window without a link to Paddy Roberts after all…
