Emilio Izaguirre, after his fall-out with Motagua’s Argentinian manager Diego Vasquez has now completed his move to local rivals Marathon – who just happen to play in green.
The 34-year-old, former Celtic favourite, has now signed a one year contract with the San Pedro Sula club. Emilio noted the return to wearing the green as he discussed his move. “Marathon play in green and that looks good to me. It’s the colours of Celtic and I managed to win many titles with them,” Izaguirre told local media, as reported by Diez.
“Hopefully, I can add another one to my collection here,” Izaguirre added. “I thank the board and the management of this club for putting their faith in me. Now I will do everything to repay them on the pitch.”
And his new club appear to be delighted at the capture of the former Celtic Star, who is a popular national figure in Honduras. Marathon president, Orinson Amaya, had this to ay about signing Emilio: “This is one of the most important signings in the history of this great club. Emilio can take us to the next level.”
Marathon will take part in the Concacaf Champions League this season, having just been paired with Portland Timbers of the MLS. Emilio will wear the Number 7 jersey for his new club.
