Medical completed – Celtic to sign highly rated English youngster on free

Celtic look set to sign highly rated Scunthorpe United youngster Joey Dawson, according to a report by Iron Bru. The Scunthorpe United fan media site claims that Dawson has rejected a new contract with the EFL League Two, leaving him free to join Celtic. The player has even passed his medical as the move nears to completion.

Celtic would need to pay a small compensation fee for cross border registration for the academy prospect. Dawson has yet to feature for the Scunthorpe first team but has been prominent in their U18s, playing predominately as an attacking midfielder.

The Parkhead club have exploited the cross border rule before with players like Moussa Dembele arriving for small compensation fees. Dawson would likely join into the Academy where he can establish himself and work towards breaking through under incoming boss Eddie Howe. The draw of Celtic and the pathway that the club offer is unrivalled given the first class facilities, top coaches and world brand.

Celtic can offer a unique pathway that would capture the imagination of young players. Celtic have so much to offer, the untapped potential at the club is endless. So with Eddie Howe likely to be coming in, there should be a focus on taking the Frimpongs of Man City, Liverpool, Man Utd and any of the English clubs that cannot offer a proper pathway to first team football for their starlets.
