Minute’s applause at Hampden and arrangements for Bertie’s funeral

Celtic have confirmed that there will a minute’s applause prior to kick-off on Saturday at the League Cup semi-final match against St Johnstone in honour of Celtic legend Bertie Auld who sadly passed away last Sunday.

Yesterday the club announced that the Celtic player will each wear the famous No.10 on their shorts at Hampden in honour of Bertie. Meanwhile the Green Brigade will honour Bertie both at the start of the semi-final match as the teams come out at Hampden and also appropriately enough on the 67th minute.

Then on Sunday 28 November at the league match against Aberdeen, all season ticket holders will have a chance to pay their own respects with a further tribute to the much loved Lisbon Lion who many have called Mr Celtic.

The official Celtic website confirms this this afternoon stating: “The Club will ensure that Celtic Park pays a fitting tribute, with season ticket holders given the chance to once again remember and honour Bertie and all he did for Celtic.”

This was the Scotland players paying their own respects on Monday night at Hampden remembering Bertie and also the former Scotland and Rangers manager Walter Smith.

Celtic have also released funeral arrangements and these are as follows:

FUNERAL ARRANGEMENTS

Bertie Auld’s funeral will take place at 12 noon next Friday, 26 November, 2021 in St Mary of the Assumption, Abercromby Street, Calton, Glasgow.

Following the service, the funeral cortege will pass by Celtic Park and down The Celtic Way at approximately 1.30pm.

The club will broadcast Bertie’s funeral live on Celtic TV and the Club’s YouTube channel for fans who wish to watch the service remotely.

For those coming to Celtic Park to pay tribute to Bertie, we are also working on installing a big screen on the Celtic Way so that supporters at the stadium can also watch the service.

Good bless you, Bertie.
