Bertie – St Mirren manager Jim Goodwin’s touching tribute

Jim Goodwin has sent a heartfelt tribute to Bertie Auld on behalf of St Mirren and himself. Goodwin is just the latest in a long-list of people to pay homage and respect to the immovable force that is and was Bertie Auld. Bertie had an infectious character and it is not hard to see why people have such an affinity and affection for him.

St Mirren manager, Goodwin, said that in his times as a player and manager he would always bump into the effervescent Bertie at Celtic Park. The Irishman even said that, “If we all had a bit of Bertie Auld in us, the world would be a better place.” A very apt and sincere tribute from Jim on behalf of him and his club.

Reading the tributes that have come in for Bertie have been nothing short of astounding. The Lion was a much-loved character around Parkhead and will be sorely missed by us all.

He brought a cheeky and mischievous streak to life at Celtic and will be enshrined into the folklore of our Club for generations to come. Although their is the obvious sadness connected with his passing, it brings great comfort in the words and eulogies of others like Jim Goodwin when they have such lovely things to say about one of our Lisbon Lions.

Have a listen at Jim Goodwin’s tribute to Bertie Auld to lift the spirit…

About Author

I'm a Garngad Bhoy through and through. My first ever Celtic game was a friendly against Italian side Parma at Celtic Park, in 2002. Currently a student of English Literature and Education at the University of Strathclyde for my sins. Favourite game would be a toss up between beating Manchester United with that Naka freekick, or the game against the Oldco when Hesselink scored in the dying seconds. I'm still convinced Cal Mac is wasted playing that far back.
