Miserable season for Celtic loanee compounded as he’s left out for vital international fixtures

It’s not been a great year for Celtic’s loan players this season, while Shane Duffy has turned out to be a total disaster after his loan spell from Brighton.

In fairness his arrival did make total sense at the time as the defence needed someone who was brave, a leader and experienced at a high level, so he looked like he would bring that to the team.

The problem is that he’s severely lacking in confidence and he’s easily exposed due to his lack of pace, so he’s slowly lost his pace in the Celtic team.

He was still a key player for Ireland and their system of sitting deeper suits him as he’s just forced to defend and get his head on the ball, but he finally paid the price for his poor form as he was left out of the team tonight.

There’s no sign of an injury so it can’t really be dressed up as anything other than a dropping, and it just compounds a miserable season for him this year.

To make things worse it looks like Seamus Coleman has taken his spot in the centre of defence and he’s not a natural centre-back, so it does indicate that the manager is going in a different direction without Duffy.
