Mixed messages – Celtic yet to confirm Davies deal as reports emerge that it’s not done yet

Celtic supporters are receiving mixed messages as to whether Ben Davies has agreed to become a Celtic player. It looked as if Celtic had sealed a deal to sign Ben Davies on a pre-contract from Preston North End when Sky Sports’ Anthony Joseph tweeted to say the 25-year-old had signed up for next year. However, since then, a couple of Scottish journalists have suggested that whilst a pre-contract has been offered to the defender, he is yet to accept it.

Sky Sports said earlier that the deal was done but Celtic wanted him this window as they look to fill the gap left by Christopher Jullien. However, The Daily Record and a few other Scottish sports journalists have said that this may be premature.

The Record are saying that Bournemouth remain interested in sealing a deal for the defender, as they near an agreement with Davies’ PNE teammate Ben Pearson – who was also linked with Celtic.

As a left footed central defender, a move for his would be shrewd, especially given the fact that he is a free agent in the summer. Although, it is almost a case of trusting Sky Sports at your peril. They are normally very accurate but it would be typical of Celtic this season to let a transfer like this slip away in the most embarrassing way.
