Moffat Magic: “Owen Moffat is the next Jimmy Johnstone mark my words, joy to watch”

The Jimmy Johnstone comparison was mentioned in the commentary this afternoon as Celtic beat Sheffield Wednesday 3-1 in South Wales in the first in a series of pre-season friendlies. The player in question was of course Owen Moffat who scored a good goal to put Celtic 2-1 up and generally impressed throughout the hour he was on the park. Great to see a Celtic Academy player emerge as a first team contender and there is no doubt if a player is good enough Ange Postecoglou will have no hesitation in playing him.

“A wee, skilful, ginger winger? No precedent for a guy like that making it at Celtic,” Yogi Junior said, knowing his dad would certainly approve. Here’s Moffat’s debut goal for Celtic in what was a stand-out, Man-of-the-Match performance…

“Owen Moffat is the next Jimmy Johnstone mark my words, joy to watch,” one supporter noted.

‘I think that is a helluva load to put on the young fellas shoulders. As I watched I thought this would happen. I understand the comparison as soon as I saw the ginger curls then his ability, but let’s allow the lad to be the best Owen Moffat he can be,” Auldheid replied.

“He was an absolute joy to watch today,” another stated. “Agree, hope he develops further and gets more game time in the future,” said another Hoops fan.

“If Moffat isn’t going to be playing at Celtic we should try for him on loan,” A Sheffield Wednesday supporter added.
