Moi Elyounoussi addresses future amidst Celtic return rumour

Former Celtic attacker Moi Elyounoussi has addressed his future following his departure from Southampton. The former £16m man was released following the Saints’ relegation from the Premier League having failed to agree on a new contract.

Elyounoussi is currently on International duty with Norway ahead of the games against Scotland and Cyprus.

Speaking to BBC, Elyounoussi refused to entertain speculation regarding his future rather insisting that he was only focused on the upcoming European doubleheader.

“Right now I am just focusing on the two games we have for Norway.

“After I will take a break and look at options. There are some already. It will depend on the whole package in terms of where and the contract situation, so it’s going to be interesting to see where I land.”

Elyounoussi initially struggled at the St Mary’s club after making a £16 million switch from Swiss side Basel in the summer of 2018. However, he rediscovered the form during his two loan seasons at Celtic Park, where the winger scored 25 goals in 69 outings under Neil Lennon, including 6 goals in European competitions.

With Brendan Rodgers set to return to Celtic, Elyounoussi may be willing to rekindle his love affair with Glasgow. The Irishman’s scheduled return seemed unlikely a matter of weeks ago so it is not outwith the realms of possibility that the 28-year-old could return.

Elyounoussi will face Scotland and former teammates Ryan Christie, Greg Taylor and Callum McGregor in the clash, which could have huge ramifications for Steve Clarke’s team and their hopes for qualifications for the European Championships.
