More to come – Wilfried Nancy drops Benjamin Nygren potential promise

Benjamin Nygren hailed his second strike as the standout finish of his time with Celtic so far after an influential display away to Livingston yesterday afternoon…

The Swede netted twice in West Lothian, cancelling out the hosts’ early advantage inside six minutes before firing his side into the lead shortly after the half-hour mark.

While his opener arrived from close range at the back post from a corner, Nygren’s second and Celtic’s third proved the highlight of the six-goal thriller – bending a precise effort from the edge of the area that clipped the post on its way into the net past helpless Livi keeper Jerome Prior.

Speaking via Sky Sports post-match, Nygren said: “Yeah, I think so [best goal for Celtic so far]. It was a great win. Not the start we wanted in the game, but we came back two times pretty fast, so I am very happy for the team.

“I’m very happy for the whole team and all of the fans. We’ve had a pretty difficult period, but we were strong to come back today and get the win.”

Post-match, Wilfried Nancy revealed that he had previously explored a move for Nygren during his tenure with MLS outfit Columbus Crew, before the 24 year-old’s eventual switch to Celtic.

“When I was in Columbus, I wanted to have him,” said Nancy at his post match media conference, as reported on The Celtic Star last night. “So I know him really well. I know what he can do. I think that he has a big potential. He hasn’t reached yet his potential.”

“But I think that in terms of relation, connection with players. This is a player of relation. So he likes to… This is not a dribbler. His ability is to make the run for his teammates but also the technique that he has.”

“So now he knows that he has to be stronger. He has to believe a little bit more in himself. But I like what I’ve seen so far. But I will challenge him.”
