Motherwell 0-4 Celtic – Next up, a nicer ground, but with nastier supporters

Not really an awful lot about this game that we didn’t know before, other than that our team played superbly, and that there wasn’t a poor player in the team.

The goals were all superbly worked, and it was a pity that Liel Abada didn’t get his deserved hat-trick. Reo Hatate’s goal was a superb piece of class and you really have to watch it on the highlights to appreciate how good it was with the change of feet, and how Kyogu enjoyed scoring his! And how we appreciated his dance at the end!

If there is any criticism to be directed at anyone, it is that I sometimes feel that there is little point in sending over high crosses to Kyogu whose aerial presence is not his strength, if I may put it that way. On the other hand he seems to revel in crosses on the ground, so perhaps better to keep the high crosses for when Giakoumakis is the striker.

But if the team continues to play like this with its crisp accurate passing, there is little to be feared from anyone. If, as I fear, there is to be no European presence after the New Year, this will be a great shame, for last night had much to enjoy.

We will however definitely have a League Cup presence after the New Year and we look forward to meeting Derek McInnes’s hard working and well organised side at Hampden, and to renew our acquaintance with that nice Mr Lafferty!

Fir Park, Motherwell must be a strong candidate for the ugliest stadium in Scotland. The playing surface is good and certainly a great deal better than it once was, but there is still that slope, and what an awful collection of stands, all of different shapes and sizes!

I refer particularly to the Main Stand which comes to an abrupt halt about three quarters of the way along and has to be supported by a rusty stanchion! I understand that is because a neighbour in 1962 objected to the stand blocking out the sun from his garden or something like that.

But before it went all seater, Fir Park was a nice trim provincial ground. Now it is a carbuncle of a ground – and it suffers from a Board of Directors who, like a few other clubs, seem to enjoy refusing money by shoving all their supporters together and thus allowing more Celtic supporters in.

But that is Motherwell’s concern. Celtic’s immediate problem is Hearts at Tynecastle on Saturday. A nicer ground, but nastier supporters who don’t like us talking about Albert Kidd!

  1. You are way off with your small-minded comments about Motherwell’s ground. You obviously don’t get around the grounds much. As a Celtic season ticket holder I take exception to your comment about the ground and the stand. It is Not necessary and certainly none of your business. The playing surface is good, which is most important.
