Neil Lennon hails Jeremie Frimpong after performance vs Hibernian

Jeremie Frimpong has had a meteoric rise since arriving at Celtic earlier this summer. When the Hoops bought him from Manchester City, they would have been hoping that he was someone that they could groom in the academy for a few years and turn him into a first-team player. Instead, the 19-year-old might have already established himself as the first choice right-back at Parkhead.

The £350,000 that Celtic paid to Manchester City for Jeremie Frimpong earlier in the summer might be the best £350,000 that they have ever spent. The kid looks destined to be an absolute superstar in the future and if his performances this season are anything to go by then that future might be here sooner than you think.

The Dutch defender has scored twice and assisted the same number of goals in just 7 Premiership appearances this season. On Sunday, he opened the scoring for the Hoops in their 2-0 victory over Hibernian in what was another display beyond his years. And it is safe to say that Neil Lennon has been very impressed with the youngster.

Following the game, the Celtic manager told Sky Sports:

“He is an amazing player. Amazing. With younger players you want to look after them but you can’t hold talent back. We looked at him in training two or three months ago saying, ‘we have to get him in the team’, he was that good.

“The big question is can he transmit all that on to the playing field. He’s done that incredibly well. He’s playing with some good players too, he will be first to admit that, but from what he brings to the team, he’s been outstanding.”

Frimpong has certainly done incredibly well since coming into the first-team fold. He is already comfortably ahead of Moritz Bauer in the pecking order and will give Hatem Abd Elhamed a tough fight for the first-team spot when the Israeli returns from injury.
