Neil Lennon has been installed as joint favourite for the vacancy at Sheffield United. The Irishman left Celtic over a fortnight ago and was on commentary duty for Manchester United’s clash with AC Milan in the Europa League and admitted he was keen on a return to management. Sky Bet has Lennon at 3/1 along with ex-Hibs boss Paul Heckingbottom, who is expected to take interim charge of the Blades.
Lennon admitted whilst on commentary duty that he was keen on a return to the dugout so a move to United may be on the cards.
“I’ve had a bit of a break, stayed in the house like everybody else is doing at the minute. But I’m sure I’ll get the itch sooner rather than later.”
United are bottom of the English Premier League and look set for the drop so if Lennon is to the get the job, he will likely be tasked with finding a way back to the Premier League next season as well as offloading Oli McBurnie.
Lennon has won ten titles with Celtic, eight Scottish Cups and three league cups in two spells as manager and one as a player. He will always be a Celtic legend but it was clear that his time as manager was up. Lennon will be recognised for all that he has done for the club but it may take some time as this season has been incredibly tough for everyone involved.
