Neil Lennon praises Ange Postecoglou as he backs Celts for title

Former Celtic manager Neil Lennon has heaped praise on his successor, Ange Postecoglou. Lennon has disclosed that he and Postecoglou have spoken over the last year and that he believes that the Premiership title will be returning to Paradise after a brief hiatus at Ibrox.

The Irishman is currently manager of Cypriot side Omonia Nicosia but he told PLZ Soccer that he was impressed with the rebuilding job that the likeable Australian has undertaken as he pushes for a league title in his debut season.

“Ange’s been a breath of fresh air. I think his style of football is great to watch.

“I think he’s a genuinely a really good guy. I’ve spoken to him on a lot of occasions.

“He’s rebuilt the squad, which needed doing, everybody knew that.

“But I think some of the players he’s brought in have been fantastic. I really like Kyogo Furuhashi and I wish I’d had Joe Hart last season!

“Ange is on the cusp now of winning the title which would be a remarkable achievement.”

Rangers managed an extra-time victory over Celtic, who were badly impacted by injuries. Some of the blue persuasion are banging the drum of a Celtic collapse but Lennon issued a calm retort saying that the league form will carry Celtic through.

“You never say it’s over until it’s over, but you’ve got six points and a really good goal difference.

“Obviously losing the semi-final is a sore one but over the piece they’ve been so consistent since October.

“Psychologically the win against Rangers in February was a huge shot in the arm for the club and Ange himself.

“They’ve been imperious domestically up until Sunday.”

Celtic travel to Dingwall to play Malky Mackay’s Ross County as they look to continue their fine form in the league with a win in the Highlands. Rangers, who kick off against Motherwell on Saturday, will be hoping that the gap sits at just 3 points when Ange’s team take to the pitch on Sunday afternoon.

Lennon won ten titles with Celtic, eight Scottish Cups and three league cups in two spells as manager and as a player. He will always be a Celtic legend but it was clear that his time as manager was up. Lennon will be recognised for all that he has done for the club but it may take some time as last season has been incredibly tough for everyone involved.
