On This Day: Celtic highlights from the 20th century, Scottish Cup win and 4-in-a-row

On This Day in Celtic’s illustrious, unbroken history there are a number of games that took place. Thanks to LilZe on Twitter, we can take a trip down memory lane and look at some of Celtic’s goals on this day in the 20th Century.

1951 – Celtic 1 Motherwell 0

Jimmy McGrory’s Celtic side won the Scottish Cup with a 1-0 win over Motherwell at Hampden. John McPhail scored the winner.

1969 – Kilmarnock 2 Celtic 2

Celtic made it 4-in-a-row with a last-minute goal from Tommy Gemmell sealing a point at Rugby Park. Going into the game needing one point from the next two matches, it was far from ideal as Stein’s side were 2-0 down at half time. An own goal from a Bobby Murdoch effort gave Celtic a lifeline before Gemmell sealed the title late on.

1979 – Aberdeen 1 Celtic 1

Celtic drew with Aberdeen at Pittodrie as Andy Lynch equalised following Gordon Strachan’s opener for the Dons.

1982 – Celtic 3 Dundee United 1

George McCluskey was at the double as Celtic beat Dundee United 3-1 at Celtic Park. Davie Provan scored a free kick as Celtic blew United away.
