Neil Lennon shuts down Craig Gordon exit rumours

Recently, Craig Gordon has been linked with a Parkhead exit after finding it difficult to find regular playing time since the arrival of Fraser Forster on loan from Southampton. The Englishman has been absolutely superb in the last few months and has firmly established himself at the top of the pecking order.

Craig Gordon though might still have ambitions of representing Scotland on the international stage and a move away from Celtic thus seems like the most logical option for him. And with Hearts reportedly open to bringing him back, a late exit has seemed possible.

Neil Lennon though has decided to shut down all the rumours and made it clear that he wants to keep Gordon at Parkhead. As reported by Sky Sports, the Celtic boss said:

“No, there’s nothing in that. Craig wants to get out and play, which is totally understandable but, at the minute, he’s needed here, he’s a priority here.

“He’s an outstanding goalkeeper, and he does have his own personal concerns, which I understand, but as far as the club is concerned, we don’t want him to go. I doubt it [he’ll leave] very much.”

Conor Hazard has already left on loan this month. As a result, if Gordon was to leave as well then it would leave Celtic with only two keepers. And an injury to either Forster or Bain could prove to be catastrophic in that situation. Thus, it should come as no surprise that Lennon is in no mood to let Gordon leave in this transfer window.
