‘Never Experienced Anything Like It,’ Celtic goal hero Jota reveals his family were in the Celtic End at Pittodrie

Having snatched victory in a scrappy, hard-fought game up at Pittodrie, Jota has been speaking to Celtic TV about his thoughts on the match and result. The Portuguese winger was a continual nuisance for Stephen Glass’ Aberdeen side. Towards the end he got his just rewards in what was a tricky encounter for Ange Postecoglou and the Hoops.

The forward was booked for his troubles on a day in which the referee was trying to make life ad difficult as possible for Ange Postecoglou’s men. However, after a switch to the right hand side of the field, Jota managed to nip in to find an Adam Montgomery pass along the deck of the Aberdeen penalty area to nab a much needed win on the road, easing the pressure valve on the boss.

Jota said: “Yeah, I’m very happy that we could win this game. We were looking to win this game, with our process, with our ideas. Definitely, we did a hard game that brought us the victory.

“I’m delighted to have scored the winning goal. But I only did that with the help of the team. We are a strong team and we fight for everything. And, yeah I’m just glad I’m in this amazing group of boys, that fight for each other. And I did the goal, so I’m very happy.”

When quizzed by Gerry McCulloch as to whether or not Jota thought the result showed character, he added: “Yeah, definitely. It shows that we are a team that is looking to win games, to do good things in football in this league. And, we just have to stick with each other and fight for each other, because we are a family. We achieved the goals.”

When asked about the spirit in the dressing room, the winger continued: “Yeah, for sure. Everytime we win, it’s like that. But we keep or feet on the ground. And we know that we still need to work a lot, because this is just a victory. The Championship is longer. So, we are just going to rest now for the international break, and come back stronger.”

When asked about his feelings on the travelling support, he said: “Yeah, how good is this? I’ve never seen something like this, pffft! And my family was in the middle of them, so I’m just waiting to get home and ask how they felt. Because I think they have never experienced something like this.”

“My girlfriend just text saying, ‘they’re asking for pictures with us’. Its actually the second (time his family came to see him play), they say the Leverkusen game at home. And then they just travelled from Glasgow to here. Yeah for sure, they are very happy.”

Jota is begining to garner a reputation as someone who the support can really depend on at crucial moments. His dazzling array of skill and technique is sending the Celtic family into rapures.
