“There have been a few words!”
Coincidence would be the best word to describe Celtic’s first pre-season opponent – in the eyes of Liam Shaw, at least.
Shaw, who made the switch to Glasgow from England’s Steel City for just £150,000, is likely to make his debut for Ange Postecoglou’s side tomorrow in a friendly – against his old side Sheffield Wednesday, just days after completing his move.
Shaw, 20, played 19 games in the EFL Championship last season, in a campaign which agonisingly saw The Owls’ relegated from England’s second tier for the first time in 11 years. Despite paltry team performances that ensured hey would ply their trade in the third tier, Shaw gave good accounts of himself in South Yorkshire; enough for Celtic to act upon their interests in the Englishman bringing him to Glasgow in the process.

Yet, tomorrow sees Celtic take on Wednesday in a pre-season friendly at their training camp in Wales – something Shaw can’t quite get his head around given the circumstances.
Speaking to The Sheffield Star, Shaw said: “It is going to be weird to be honest, my first game for Celtic playing against Wednesday but it is just like any other game of football. When you’re on the pitch, you don’t really think about it and you just think about winning.
“I am looking forward to it. It will be a tough game, it won’t be easy at all. Wednesday have got a lot of good players still there.”
“Obviously I know all the lads really well and they know how I play. It will be nice to see a few familiar faces. I will go in and give it 100 per cent and we will see how it goes. We have to play our football and play the way we want to play and not worry about any other team.”
