Next Celtic manager: Martin O’Neill admits his “time has gone” but makes huge Roy Keane claim

We’ve seen that almost any manager with a connection to Celtic has been linked to the job in recent weeks, but any talk about Martin O’Neill has started to die down.

He’s a pundit on Sky Sports for the game against the Rangers today, and he was directly asked about his chances of returning to take the job in the summer, but admitted that “his time has gone”.

Interestingly the topic then moved on to Roy Keane, and O’Neill clearly thinks he’s a man who should be in the frame:

“What you see is what you get from Roy. I think owners and chief executives are missing a trick by not thinking about him as a manager.

“He is very capable of taking a top job”

Keane is an interesting case because he’s played for the club and he’s also played for years under one of the best managers of all time in Sir Alex Ferguson, but his managerial career hasn’t lived up to that.

You fear he would struggle deal with the pressure and he would eventually start to turn on his own players and it would quickly become a disaster, so he’s not the obvious choice to replace Neil Lennon.

Keane and O’Neill have worked together for years so it would be a surprise if he didn’t say nice things about his old assistant, but it’s hard to see him being a success at Celtic.
