Giorgos Giakoumakis is doing well in the USA, but he’s gone, so there’s no point in dwelling on the past…
Clips of Giorgos Giakoumakis scoring a cracking goal for Atlanta United were shared more than a few times this week. The Greek striker has been in fine form for the MLS side since his move from Celtic in January. I believe that was his sixth goal in just nine appearances, that’s a terrific return.
Casual for Giorgos Giakoumakis 🥱

It doesn’t surprise the Celtic supporters though who were well aware of his presence in front of goal. Some have predictably been sharing their frustrations on social media about how he shouldn’t have been let go, the usual grumblings, you know the script.
Yes in an ideal world Giorgos would have stayed at Celtic, but at the end of the day he wanted to leave which was his right. He wanted a guaranteed start but there was one major obstacle in his way, and that was Kyogo. The Scottish Player of the Year and top scorer in the country.
Can’t do it without y’all, 17s ❤️🖤

Ange had no option but to grant him his wish and he was allowed to move on. Celtic received a tidy profit on a player who scored important goals for the club and the player got a good move for him and his family in the USA. At the age of 28 It was most likely his last big contract so it was an amicable move for all involved.

I wish Giorgos all the best and it’s good to see him doing well, he did us a good turn and we all appreciate his efforts, but that was in the past, it’s time to move on and stop thinking what might have been. We have exiting times ahead.

Instead of being loved by fans all over the world, he’s now loved by fans in part of Atlanta. Money hungry. He was good for us & I liked him, but we’re a game away from a treble & in the CL group stages again .. he’s what? Trying to get a play off place or whatever? Who cares?
