No New Barkas bid but “a large second bid from Celtic” is imminent

CELTIC have NOT made a second bid for AEK Athens Greek International goalkeeper Vassilis Barkas but a second bid is imminent according to the agent involved in the deal. That is the latest news from Greek sports journalist and Editor-in-Chief at Sportime, Giannis Chorianopoulos.

“According to our sources, there is NOT an official second offer from Celtic regarding AEK Athens goalkeeper Vassilis Barkas. But the agents who held the transfer and spoke with the Greek club today are optimist about a large second bid from Celtic,” Chorianopoulos reports.

Celtic are preparing to allow Ross Doohan to head up to the Highlands for a season long loan deal with Ross County as they look to add a first choice keeper to the squad, preferably ahead of Sunday’s Premiership opener against Hamilton at Celtic Park.

Neil Lennon’s second string Celtic side beat Hibs 3-1 in the second friendly of the double header today with the goals coming from Dembele and Klimala (2). Yet the performance of Conor Hazard was impressive and will ease concerns about the weakness in that position after the departure of Craig Gordon and Fraser Forster returning to Southampton at the end of his loan period.

Celtic have NOT given up on the pursuit of the Englishman but the time is narrowing if he is going to get his move back to Paradise. Celtic have delayed the expected second bid to give that option another chance but it could well be that the attention is move moving to the Greek international as the most likely option for getting a deal done.

Fraser, Big Man, it’s now or maybe never…
