It’s official! Paddy Roberts opts for Spanish loan move

GOOD LUCK to Paddy Roberts for his, now confirmed, season long loan at Girona FC in La Liga.

Paddy spent the previous two and a half years at Celtic where he became a huge fans favourite.

Last summer Celtic were apparently close to agreeing a £10million deal with Manchester City to sign the player but as always seems to happen, there was a last minute hitch and a hastily arranged season long loan deal was put in place.

But Roberts had a frustrating season which was hindered by two separate injuries and he was just about ready to contribute again as last season drew to a close.

Whether Celtic didn’t see the value on going back in or whether Roberts just fancied something different, we don’t know. He did state that he fancied a crack at playing in the Premier League but links with Leicester, West Ham and Huddersfield didn’t turn into tangible moves.

His parent club Manchester City, of course have a sizable stake in Girona and as it is a season long loan, we’ll all no doubt be speculating next summer about a possible return to Glasgow or the player.

With his contract another year closer to ending his sell-on value will reduce.

Both City and Roberts have pretty much accepted that they will go their separate ways. Roberts has now passed a medical at the La liga side. He is now in their squad for their opening game of the season at home to Valladolid tomorrow night before a glamour clash against Real Madrid a week on Sunday, which is also at the Estadi Montilivi.
