Olivier Ntcham appears to have had Celtic stay extended

Olivier Ntcham was pictured as Celtic travel to Wales ahead of the pre-season camp as Ange Postecoglou begins to piece together his team ahead of the new season. The midfielder will be hoping to either earn himself a place in the manager’s plans ahead of the new season or hope that the club sanction a move for him in the summer.

The fact that the player was pictured in Celtic training gear suggests that his stay has been extended but whether he remains at the club remains to be seen. The 25-year-old could yet force his way into Postecoglou’s plans as the Australian boss said that he would treat each player with a fresh slate.

The Frenchman joined from Manchester City for £4.5m in 2017. The player blew hot and cold across a three-and-a-half-year spell before his loan move to Marseille in January. It looked as if he would make the switch permanently back to France but endured a torrid time resulting in him coming back to Glasgow. However, AEK Athens appeared willing to pay him £20,000-per-week but Celtic would not budge on letting him leave for free.

Fans had likely expected to see the back of Ntcham with that move to Greece; however, it was probably wise for Celtic to retain the player until the manager is given the chance to ascertain whether he is good enough to be involved with the new rebuild. In truth, a move to Greece would not suit Ntcham’s ideal career trajectory given that he was on a few years ago. Celtic offer him the chance to earn a move to the Premier League if he gets his head down and commits to the new regime.
