On This Day: Celtic and Inter Milan play out European classic in Europa League draw

On This Day in 2015, Ronny Deila’s Celtic put on a stunning show in a pulsating draw against Inter Milan in the Europa League. Despite falling two goals behind in the first half, Celtic restored parity against the visitors from the San Siro thanks to a goal from Stuart Armstrong and an own goal.

After an uncharacteristic clanger from Craig Gordon, Inter went ahead and looked as if the Serie A club would clinch the lead going into the second leg. However, John Guidetti came up with an injury time winner to make sure that the Celts had a fighting chance in the second leg. The Swedish striker latched onto a clipped pass from Liam Henderson to volley the Celts back on level terms.

Unfortunately for Celtic, they were beaten across in Italy after the questionable decision to send Virgil Van Dijk off. The Dutch central defender was shown to yellow cards and Celtic were beaten 1-0, despite being on top the teams both had eleven men on the pitch.

Celtic: Gordon, Matthews, Denayer, Van Dijk, Izaguirre, Brown, Bitton, Mackay-Steven, Johansen, Armstrong, Griffiths.
