On This Day: Celtic win League Cup thanks to Kyogo double

On This Day in 2021, Celtic won the League Cup thanks to a double from Kyogo Furuhashi. The Japanese striker hit an inspired double as Ange Postecoglou lifted his first trophy as Celtic manager.

Celtic were plagued with injuries going into the game and with this chance, Hibs must’ve fancied their chances of going on to lift the trophy especially after Paul Hanlon bundled the ball over the line at the beginning of the second half.

Although, from kick-off Celtic played just four passes to go level. Tom Rogic kicked off, knocking the ball back to Nir Bitton, who passed into the feet of Greg Taylor. Taylor found skipper Callum McGregor, who had peeled off to the left before a pass was played into the feet of Kyogo. The Japanese forward took the ball down before a neat finish to make it 1-1.

Rogic would then set Kyogo up for the second of the game, taking a quick free-kick and allowing the striker to run forward and lift the ball over Matt Macey with an excellent finish.

Celtic held on and were completely worthy of the trophy. It set down a marker of what the manager had achieved in a short space of time.
