On This Day: Stunner from King Kenny but Celtic knocked out

Kenny Dalglish scored one of the best goals you will see on this day in 1976. In a Scottish Cup clash at Fir Park against Motherwell, the Scottish striker who would later be referred to as ‘King Kenny’ lashed in a thunderous free-kick.

It was a stunning effort from over 25 yards on and Celtic would then score again through Andy Lynch.

However, Celtic would in fact lose the game 3-2 despite being two up at halftime. The second half collapse resulted in the first time the Parkhead side had been knocked out of the Third Round since 1968. The Fir Park side won 3-2.
