Celtic’s loss to theRangers in the Scottish Cup Semi Final last weekend certainly stung supporters, who were hoping for yet another treble this season. However, it is up to the players to show that the post match reaction has been hyperbolic.
The Hoops lost the game in extra time by a solitary goal – the first domestic defeat for Ange Postecoglou’s side in over 30 matches. A defeat in such fashion should not be the sign of a team toiling or set to struggle in the remaining five league fixtures. Anyone can lose a game, especially against last season’s champions who are in a European Semi Final, so it was hardly an abysmal result.
I’d urge fans to remain calm. We are unbeaten in the SPFL since Livingston turned us over on 19 September 2021. 27 league games have been played since then, with Celtic winning 23 and drawing four.
Wrapping up the title and securing a remarkable double is now the be all and end all. In truth, the league title always is, but especially with automatic entry to the Champions League almost certainly on the line. It is up to Celtic to show that a one off game has not deviated them from the path to glory. Six points from our next two games will effectively secure the championship. We must now bounce back and silence those who think that a rare defeat has knocked us off our stride. It would also be great to silence Barry Ferguson who has questioned our bottle to win the title on the back of last weekend’s result. It will certainly be a huge game at Dingwall.
