Others are writing Celtic off, winning shuts down the noise

Others are writing us off, let’s not do that ourselves…

Congratulations are I suppose due to theRangers who won their first ever league cup and in doing so equalled St Johnstone’s trophy haul of three trophies this past decade. The Saints are a fine, long established football club with a great heritage and a proud unbroken history so to match them over the past ten years or so is quite an achievement after Charles Green build a new club in 2012 following the rejection of a CVA by the old club’s creditors.

This League Cup triumph has led to an increase in expectations by theRangers support who now believe they are going to do the Quadruple. Indeed so does their captain James Tavernier who just a few short months ago suffered as his team were booed off the park after losing to Aberdeen at Ibrox. Now they are the best side left in the Europa League and they’ll be adding that trophy to the domestic treble they’re certain to win.  In their eyes anyway,

Brendan Rodgers applauds the support after yesterday defeat against Hearts

Admittedly the momentum is with them at this moment in time, but football is a strange game as we all know to well. Brendan Rodgers and his coaches will be very busy this week working with the players and will also surely be abandoning this policy of giving as many players as possible game-time in December ahead of the window opening.

If that was a gamble worth taking in order to facilitate a few exits then it’s backfired spectacularly with six points dropped against Kilmarnock and Hearts.

Although it looks like it, Celtic haven’t turned into a bad side overnight. We have plenty of  talent, we are just going through a bit of a slump at the moment.

Brendan Rodgers is also an experienced manager, so he knows what it takes to get us back on track. One things for sure we can’t afford anymore slip ups in our next two games before we face theRangers in the Glasgow Derby game at the end of the month.

So don’t write ourselves off, to do so would be ridiculous and also self-defeating.. Let others do that for us all that they want and you can be sure that there will be enough pundits and hacks doing that anyway. Did you notice that one of the hacks was reporting via video from theRangers end at Hampden yesterday!  That never happened when we were winning all this trebles did it?

Anyway I’m confident that Celtic will get back on track, starting with a win on Saturday against Livingston and then on Boxing Day at Dens Park and that will set us up for a memorable win against theRangers on 30 January when we’ll have 60,000 supporters there to cheer on the team.

And that’s why while Brendan is working with the players up at Lennoxtown, the board is hopefully meeting the Green Brigade to get matters sorted so we can all get behind the team. That dispute plus the poor performances against Kilmarnock then Hearts added up to create a toxic atmosphere at the weekend as the match progressed.

Everything must be done to bring that to a close with every supporter under a moral obligation to get behind the team for these crucial matches.

To win all these games and also the match away to St Mirren on 2nd January looks like a tough task at this moment in time, but it’s one that isn’t impossible. If we play to our strengths we can win all four games. We’ve got to be optimistic. We’ve got to believe and we’ve all got to be together and be right behind the team from the first to last minute of every game.

Just an Ordinary Bhoy

  1. Great piece 👏

Removing the major issue of defending set pieces (Livi will have snow on the ball coming into our box on Saturday) by playing 4 big strong defenders till January…..
