Partcik Thistle v Celtic FC Women, Kick-off 12.45pm, live on You Tube

Celtic FC Women take on Partick Thistle this lunchtime in the League Cup and you can watch the game live on You Tube.

Fran Alonso spoke to Celtic TV about the beginning of the defence of one of the two cups that the team won last season. “Everyone is very excited. To be fair I think we are very excited this season for every game regardless of the opponent,” Fran said.

“We are playing the football that we want, we are developing a lot in the style from last year. The girls are mastering what we ask them to do and I’m delighted with the performances they are putting on. And in their internal fight for positions, they are making every single player better.

“Obviously they have to deal with the disappointment of not playing, but now especially when the team is doing well and playing well, everyone is desperate to play and it’s no different with the cup.

“They have experienced playing in a final, it was an amazing day, the whole experience from morning until the evening celebrating at Celtic Park, and we know we’ve got to win it, so we are hungry for more.

“We know it’s going to be tough, even tougher than last year because everyone wants to beat the cup champions , but we are very excited, we are working very hard and we will do our very best to try to get to the final.

“And if we manage to get to the final, then to try to win it again.”

The news this week that Sky Sports are to start broadcasting some SWPL matches this season was certainly welcome and the subscription broadcaster are even sponsoring the League Cup this season. They also interviewed the Celtic manager on Friday…
