Peter Lawwell met with Eddie Howe, claims Sky Sports man

YESTERDAY’S FOCUS was predominately on the early kick off in the Europa League versus Sparta Prague in the Czech Republic. The game was a must-win if Celtic were to harbour any ambitions on European football after Christmas. Odsonne Edouard gave Celtic a perfect start but it was all downhill after that as Prague ran out 4-1 winners on an embarrassing night for Celtic.

With that news and the speculation once again turning to Neil Lennon’s job, one story that was missed by a large portion of the Celtic support was Sky Sports and Talksport presenter Jim White claiming that Peter Lawwell and Eddie Howe had met recently to play golf.

“One name that keeps on getting mentioned, and I cannot confirm this, but it’s been reported to me that Eddie Howe was in Scotland recently playing golf with Peter Lawwell.

“Eddie Howe is ready to take a job back in football. Would Eddie Howe be the man for Celtic?

“With all due to respect to Neil who I know is still in the job and I apologise for talking like this, but we have to.

“Would Howe be the man? If you’re a Celtic fan, would you want him?”

Golf is one of those sports that supplement a lot of business deals and it is curious that the out-of-work manager was being linked a meeting with the Celtic chief executive. Howe seems more of a project as opposed to a quick fix that a bigger name would allow but if White is to be believed, then Celtic are planning a managerial change at some point.

The reliability of White also needs to be called into question, why mention it now? When Celtic are at a low ebb – or is it just drumming up interest in a coach and creating speculation. Howe appeared on Sky Sports’ MNF and impressed as he spoke about developing players and his eagerness to get back into the game.
