RYAN CHRISTIE was Scotland’s standout performer in the win over Serbia in Belgrade. The Celtic midfielder played as a second striker to Lyndon Dykes and was the Scotland goalscorer that threatened to end a 22-year wait for an appearance at an international tournament.
The player reacted to a famous win on his instagram with the words included in his caption: ‘Im off to get leathered’. I think he speaks for a lot of us here.
Christie was chasing everything and had his reward after quick feet in the congested Serbian area saw the Celtic star find the corner and send everyone back home into a frenzy. Sadly, in true Scottish fashion, there was to be a twist in the tail and Jovic scored seconds from the final whistle meaning that Christie wasn’t the match winner.
Instead the game was settled by penalties and Christie, who was subbed at 1-0, was forced to watch from the sidelines as Scotland beat the Serbs 5-4 in their own backyard on spot kicks.
