Today’s photo of the day comes from Tannadice in 2008 and that famous title for Tommy.
Seemingly down and out at the beginning of April, Celtic went on a winning run to become champions on the final day in May. A great title triumph was even more poignant as first team coach and club legend, Tommy Burns, had tragically passed away just a few days before the final match of the season.
“We’ll do it for Tommy,” was the promise made by Gordon Strachan and he kept his word as Celtic’s 1-0 victory over Dundee United, along with Aberdeen beating Rangers, secured the trophy.
Few will ever forget the scene as big Jan Venegoor of Hesselink rose highest to power home a header from Paul Hartley’s corner in the second half.

What a night!
One of the very lucky one’s to be at Tannadice on “Helicopter Thursday”. Given that we had been dead and buried by the media in April this was as astonishing campaign culminating in us winning it for “Tommy Burns” who died earlier that week. The old Rangers were away at Aberdeen the same night. Because of the celebrations, our buses were delayed for more than an hour which was great because as we arrived at the junction to Glasgow their buses were just arriving. We got the driver to get as close as possible. They had the lights out and ducked down below the windows! What a day to be alive!
