Photo Of The Day: Cartoon Captures The Clashes In World Club Championship

Today’s photo of the day features an amusing cartoon about the World Club Championship clashes between Celtic and Racing Club.

The three matches culminated in the Battle of Montevideo, numerous red cards and riot police intervention. It was a series of games that were an attack on the game and the spirit in which it should be played.

Celtic’s swashbuckling team, who had recently won the European Cup, weren’t allowed to engage in proper football. Instead, the tie was turned into a fight by their South American opponents. That was the Hoops’ ultimate undoing, and this satirical cartoon captured the feeling associated with the event in comical style.

Sometimes, as the old adage goes, a picture paints a thousand words.
