Photo Of The Day: Celtic Fans Given FIFA Fair Play Award

Today’s photo of the day takes you back to 2004 when Celtic hosted FK Teplice in the UEFA Cup. The evening saw the Hoops cruise to a 3-0 victory, Henrik Larsson putting Celtic 1-0 up inside the first two minutes. However, the focus of our feature is on the pre-match proceedings when Sepp Blatter held a Celtic shirt with Fair Play 03 on the back, as he made a presentation to the Celtic supporters, gifting them the FIFA Fair Play award for 2003.

The award came after 80,000 Celtic fans had gone to Seville for the UEFA Cup Final and there had been no arrests, even after drinking the city dry and losing the match in agonising circumstances.

Upon handing over the trophy, Blatter said “Celtic fans you are great, you are marvelous.”
