Photo Of The Day: Celtic Fans Queue For Tickets Ahead Of 1970 European Cup Semi Final

The photo of the day feature returns to The Celtic Star today with an image that dates back to April 1970, when Celtic faced Leeds United in the Semi Final of the European Cup.

The picture shows fans queuing outside Celtic Park to purchase their tickets for the big match, which actually took place at Hampden because demand was so large that a stadium with greater capacity (as Hampden had back then) was required.

The official attendance was recorded as 136,505, which remains a European record for a club match. However, the reality is that the figure was much higher as many ticketless fans forced their way into the ground, while others were given a lift over the turnstyle!
