Photo Of The Day: Celtic Hero Action Shot 1936

Today’s photo of the day dates back to 17 October 1936, when Celtic drew 0-0 with Dundee at Dens Park. It shows Celtic hero Willie Buchan in action, competing with Baxter for the ball.

The game saw Delaney feted by thousands of supporters after he had scored both goals in Scotland’s midweek 2-0 victory over Germany that Wednesday. The outside right wasn’t at his best in this match though, while Dundee keeper Marsh was mainly responsible for ensuring the game ended goalless.

24,000 fans were in attendance and they left disappointed. There were a number of arrests made due to fighting among both supports.

The photo is, nevertheless, a rare action shot of the time – depicting one of Celtic’s legendary players.
