Today’s photo of the day goes back to 8 August 1979 when Celtic thumped China 6-1 in an unusual pre-season friendly.
The Chinese national team had visited Paradise as part of their UK tour, having made contact with the Celtic board to arrange the fixture a year earlier. The visitors were given a warm welcome to Glasgow, being greeted by a piper and offered use of the training facilities at Barrowfield.
At the match itself, the Chinese players were given a great reception by the Celtic crowd. Meanwhile, Murdo MacLeod scored an incredible hat trick, adding to goals by McCluskey (2) and Provan.
It is the latter who features in our photo today, with an action shot from the match…
