Photo Of The Day: Fans Honour Lisbon Lions As Celtic Complete An Invincible League Season

Today’s photo of the day comes from 21 May 2017. It was then that goals from Leigh Griffiths and Stuart Armstrong completed an Invincible League season for Celtic in Brendan Rodgers’ first season at the helm. However, the real story was the commemorations of the Lisbon Lions that day.

Celtic’s triumph in Lisbon came almost 50 years to the day before this match, against Hearts, and the Green Brigade organised a stunning full stadium display before the game.

Then, in the 67th minute, the group unveiled a banner reading “67 in the heat of Lisbon,” surrounded by numerous flares and smoke bombs. The full stadium rose and chanted In the heat of Lisbon, the fans came in their thousands, to see the Bhoys become champions 67.”
