Photo Of The Day: Ibrox Celebrations As 4-0 Win Sets Celtic Up For Historical Season

Today’s photo of the day dates back to August 1966, when Celtic demolished Rangers 4-0 in the Glasgow Cup first round at Ibrox.

Bobby Lennox scored a hat trick that day, with the other goal coming from Billy McNeill. It was a demolition job which sent out a message – this Celtic team meant business and were out to win everything they were to compete in.

Jock Stein responded to the success by giving the players a day off to go golfing the next day! This was another key part of building the team spirit of what would become the Lisbon Lions.

The Hoops made an incredible start to the campaign. They lifted the League Cup first, but the Glasgow Cup would enter the cabinet before long. The league trophy and Scottish Cup would follow, being kept company by the European Cup at the end of May.
