Photo Of The Day: Billy McNeill Poses With The Trophies

Today’s photo of the day feature returns with an image of Celtic icon Billy McNeill posing with the league and Scottish Cup trophies, having guided the Hoops to a historic double in the club’s centenary year.

Trophies weren’t as easy to come by in the 1980s, with Aberdeen, Dundee United, Rangers, and Hearts all competing for titles. Therefore, a double – Celtic’s first for 11 years – was a much more notable achievement than in modern times.

How fitting that the man at the helm was one of the club’s greatest ever figures, at such a landmark time in our history.
